Duval Eliot (1909-1990) was versed in watercolor painting, fashion and magazine illustration, serigraphy, and copper enamel bas-reliefs.  Born in Arkansas, she moved to California at a young age where she studied Art & Design at Los Angeles Trade Tech College (then known as Frank Wiggins Trade School).  Upon her graduation in 1930, she enrolled in Art Center School to study commercial art, subsequently designing layouts and fashion illustrations for the major Los Angeles department stores.  During the 1940s in travels with her husband, noted artist Don Eliot, she amassed a large body of watercolors of California and the American West.  She received the Western Art Directors Award in 1946 and her works are in the collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art,  The Autry Museum of Western Heritage, Laguna Art Museum, and the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
