California native Martha Saudek (1923-2015) was internationally known for her serene depictions of light and sky reflected in water. She was a Signature Member of numerous professional art associations including: Oil Painters of America, American Academy of Women Artists, Women Artists of the West, Knickerbocker Artists USA, and the California Art Club. Saudek held solo exhibitions in the Capitol Rotunda in the House of Representatives, Washington, D.C., at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center in New York City, and in the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall in Taipei, Taiwan. Museum exhibitions include the Autry Museum of Western Heritage, Pasadena Museum of History, Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History, Phippen Museum (Arizona), Carnegie Museum (California), Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum (California), Pasadena Museum of California Art, Tucson Museum (Arizona), and the Petropavlovsk Museum (Russia). Her work earned the Grumbacher National Gold Medal Award, The Artist's Magazine Landscape Prize and in 2001 the Region III award in the Arts for the Parks National Competition. In addition, her work has been published in a number of art books including: The Best of Flower Painting, Painting Shapes and Edges, Art of the American West, and How to Paint Trees, Flowers and Foliage. Saudek was featured in the national magazines, SouthwestArt, Art of the West, Revue Magazine, and Art News.
